When Descendants debuted on the Disney Channel in 2015, there were high hopes for Kenny Ortega’s newest Disney Channel original, and the feature did come true! Following the film’s release, Disney has highlighted two more action films, as well as several animated specials, including this summer’s Descendants: The Royal Wedding.
In the animated film, viewers watch Mal and Ben end up exchanging yes, much to the horror of Hades. The future can be designed as the final chapter in the franchise’s successful trajectory; However, in an interesting twist, the film seemed to set the stage for Descendants 4.
Was it just wishful thinking on Disney’s part that a fourth film from the hit franchise might come out?

Is Descendants 4 Coming?
Disney has yet to confirm plans for a fourth Descendants film; Descendants: However, the royal wedding seems to have laid the groundwork for another film.
When the special animation ends, the camera zooms in on a bunch of white roses that have been painted red before taking us down the rabbit hole and turning black. The joke seems to indicate plans for a new installment in the franchise, which is related to Alice in Wonderland.
Apparently, Disney has plans to continue the franchise. It will be interesting to see if the plans include a fourth action film or if the franchise can continue the animation path with an animated feature film.
Descendants 4 Release Date
Since Disney hasn’t confirmed whether a fourth Descendants movie is in the works, it’s unclear exactly when Descendants 4 will arrive at Disney.
Depending on when Disney officially announces the project and whether it’s an action or animated film, it could potentially be released in 2022. However, it’s important to note that Disney has traditionally released a new episode every 2 years, with Descendants being canceled in July 2015, and Descendants 2 in December 2015. July 2017, Descendants 3 was canceled in August 2019 and Descendants: The Royal Wedding arrived in August 2021.
If Disney pursues a similar plan to release the fourth film, it’s likely that Descendants 4 will be released sometime in the summer of 2023.
When is Descendants 4 coming to Disney Plus?
If Descendants 4 premieres on the Disney Channel in the summer of 2023, fans will likely have to wait until early 2024 to air the Disney Plus films. That’s because Disney usually releases Disney Plus Descendants about six months after their Disney Channel debut.
Descendants 4 Cast
No official cast for Descendants 4 has been announced in the summer of 2021, but it looks like Disney is working on getting most of the original cast back for the fourth film in the franchise. While it’s unknown which cast will return, the first favorites for the fourth film are Dave Cameron (Mal), Sophia Carson (Ivy), Bubu Stewart (Jay), and Mitchell Hope (Ben). We’re also likely to see more of Sarah Jeffrey (Audrey) and China Ann McClain (Uma).
In addition to returning favorites, the fourth film will likely be inspired by Alice in Wonderland, so we’re likely to run into movie-related characters like Alice, Queen of Hearts, or the Mad Hatter.
