In the case of Bulk LPG storage tank and the safety-related to it:

Position of the storage tank

There should be a minimum distance between the tank or any building, boundary line, or fixed source of ignition. This has to be checked before the installation of storage tanks so that the supplier can check the distance of the tank from any source of ignition. In most cases generally, these tanks are owned by the supplier company of LPG, but if you are unsure then you should check this up with your supplier. Generally, LPG suppliers will look after the tank and its fittings but again check this with your supplier if you are not sure, as legally it needs to be maintained in a safe condition.

Security needed around the storage tank

People who are not involved with installation and other activities related to storage of LPG such as workers or visitors should not be allowed near the storage tank. It is important to keep people away from smoking near the storage tank. Also, parking vehicles and using electrical equipment near the storage tank should be prohibited. Signboards like ‘No smoking ‘should be displayed to restrict people from smoking near the storage tank. Bonfires and barbecues or any other ignition sources should be kept as far as possible from the tank.

Ventilation around the tank

This is one of the most basic points whenever we talk about the safety precautions regarding the storage of LPG. Proper ventilation is required in case of any leaks to ensure there is a good airflow so that pockets of heavier-than-air LPG vipers cannot build up around them. Also, electrical appliances and any other combustible materials should be kept as far away from the storage tanks. Also, weeds and long grasses should be cut down around the tank. Do not use a weed killer like a chlorate-based one as these can make the dead plants easier to ignite.
