There are tons of movies that come out each year. Some movies perform exceptionally well, making a mark in history while others do not meet the viewers’ expectations. In this mix, some movies do not get the applause that they deserve.
There are many movies out there that have suffered a rather poor fate just because either the critics bombarded it with negative feedback or the audience failed to fathom the overall concept of the film. Today we have gathered a list of some of these very unlucky titles, which somehow were unsuccessful in gaining the fame and popularity that they truly deserved.
Spoiler Alert: All the serious movie-watchers, there are spoilers ahead. So, if you have not watched any of the movies and are intending to watch them some time, please proceed at your own risk.
Back to the Future II
A sequel to the 1985 film Back to the Future, its sequel did not manage to reach the same heights of fame as its predecessor. If you remember its prequel, Marty McFly has already traveled to the past to 1955.
This time, Marty travels to the year 2015 in the future. After returning from the year 2015, Marty now has to revisit the year 1955 to rectify the catastrophic changes to his life without interfering with his previous visit.
Even though the concept of time travel can be very confusing, director Robert Zemeckis has skillfully managed to portray this concept spectacularly. In the list of underrated movies, this one definitely makes the cut.
X-Men: First Class
Another great mention in the underrated list is this epic in the X-Men universe. The story shows the origin story of how the X-Men were originally formed. We see young Charles Xavier (played by James McAvoy) and young Erik Lensherr (played by Michael Fassbender) in the 1960s when they were working together to form this amazing group of people.
We then see how Erik aka Magneto turns against Xavier saying that humans cannot change and they need to stand against it. This starts a never-ending dispute between Professor X and Magneto that we all know about.
Just Wright
The film features none other than the remarkable Queen Latifah as a disheartened physical therapist, Leslie Wright, who simply does not have any hope for her career or her love life for that matter. Her life takes a turn when she comes across an NBA superstar Scott McKnight (played by Common) and she has to be his physical therapist.
Apart from sparking your interest in basketball, the film manages to give you a flavor of romance and comedy both at the same time. The story takes you on a beautiful journey where the hardcore basketball fan, Leslie, slowly realizes her love for the superstar.
American Psycho
The story revolves around a hot-shot investment banker, Patrick Bateman (played by Christian Bale), who has a psychopath alter-ego. He hides this hideous side from all his colleagues and friends to maintain his public image.
The film is a perfect mix of crime and drama but unfortunately did not get the recognition that it deserved. And with noticeable other figures like Justin Theroux, Josh Lucas, and a couple of others, the film is nothing short of a masterpiece.
Shutter Island
If you are talking about films that did not get the due recognition, then you simply cannot ignore this masterpiece by Martin Scorsese. Apart from being one of the most mind-bending thrillers of all time, it is one of the best performances by Leonardo DiCaprio.
In the movie, we see Dicaprio as U.S. Marshall Teddy Daniels, who is accompanied by his new partner Chuck Aule (portrayed by Mark Ruffalo), to Shutter Island. They are there for an investigation at a psychiatric facility where a murderer seems to have escaped.
After arriving at the island, they have to face several hurdles in the investigation. The staff nor the patients are willing to help them get the job done. As if all this isn’t enough to get one hyped up about the movie, the climax pulls the rugs from under viewers’ feet.
